first flight : 3 March 1964 F-WLKJ c/n 169 First delivery : 25 July 1964 to Finnair c/n 181 OH-LSA operational : 16 August 1964
country : France
production : 22 aircraft
general information :
The VIR was followed by the 10A with GE CJ805-23C turbofans of 7300 kg of thrust. These were so-called aft fans. It made its first flight on Dec. 28 , 1960 . This version did not go into production. The 10B with P&W JT8D-1 turbofans did go into production. It was first referred to as Super B, later as Super Caravelle. The 10B had aerodynamical changes that raised the speed limit from Mach 0.77 to Mach 0.81.
Equipped with 2 doors and 1 exit in the tail as well as 4 emergency exits.
The last operational Caravelle was a Type 3 10B that flew with Waltair until 2005.
Super Caravelle 10B prototype F-WLKJ c/n 169 , already in Finnair colours, it flew with Finnair as OH-LSG ‘ Jyvaskyla ’ , it ended its career more than 35 years later with Waltair under registration 9Q-CPI .

Waltair SE-210 Caravelle 10B3 9Q-CPI (c/n 169) about taking off from Kinshasa Ndjili (Int.) airport, August 1995. Originally OH-LSG with Finnair in 1964, then I-GISU with Altair Linee Aeree, F-GELQ wth Europe Aero Service, and HB-ICJ with Aero Jet. According some sources this was the last Caravelle performing passengers flights, with the last flight taking place in 2005. Other sources tell this aircraft was scrapped by 2001.. Photo: Dick Gilbert
If scrapped in 2001 the last Caravelle passenger flight took probably place with Gabon Express Caravelle 11R reg. 3D-SEP. When Gabon Express ceased operation in June 2004 it was still using the Caravelle.
Looking at above frame details from source : 9Q-CPI - Waltair (SE-210 Caravelle-10B3) - PlaneLogger , c/n 169 was reported back in service September 2001 and used as combi pax/cargo
Operating in the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 1983-2005, Waltair’s Air operator’s certificate was revoked by the Congolese Civil Aviation Authority in 2005 and the company found itself added into the EU’s list of banned airlines in the European Union. Their last Caravelle was 9Q-CPI c/n 169 which had been the original 10B prototype and could boast a service record that included Finnair (OH-LSG), Altair, Air City, Aero Jet (HB-ICJ) and then to Waltair
